So far I really like the book. It is really interesting to me because you really never know what is going to happen next. It’s a real page-turner.
In the first chapter of this section that we read we start to see signs that Clarissa’s mom might be crazy. Some of the signs are her mom starts to talk to the cat outside every night. She also starts to write notes in grains of pepper of salt. She writes her notes of things to do this way. In this chapter Clarissa’s mom also escapes for the first time form her husband.
The book then goes back in time and Clarissa talks about how she goes to look for her mother with her friend Virginia. On the 4th anniversary of her mother’s appearance the family holds a funeral for her but they do not even know weather or not their mother is dead.
In the next chapter of this section, Clarissa sets out to find her father in Finland. She goes to a church because she is told that her father is a priest. When she gets there, there is a mass going on and her father is leading the mass. She sees him but she does not actually say anything to him. She cannot decide if she should say something to him at the church or if she should wait and talk to him back at his house. She decides to wait and go to the house. Her father answers the door and one of his first questions is he asks if her mother has died yet.

I am going to start off by saying that I am not a very big fan of reading much of anything. This is mostly because I have a lot of trouble remembering what I read. When I was learning how to read, I was always behind in my progress compared to everyone else in my class. But I did eventually learn how to read and I would say that I am a pretty decent reader now. I still have a lot of trouble remembering what I read though. If it is something that I am very interested in, then I will pay enough attention to it that I will be able to remember it.
In high school, I have to admit that I did not read the majority of the reading. I would always start all of the assigned reading but I could never get through the first chapters because I would just get bored of it and loose interest. I am pretty sure that I survived high school English class just my listening to the discussions in class. I would always have trouble with the pop quizzes but I would do well on the tests and papers just from the discussions so my grade just balanced out. The first time that I started to enjoy English class was my junior year of high school. This was the year when we studied the American Dream and read books on that topic. Some of the books that we read were Easy Rider and Great Gatsby. Those are the first two book that I actually enjoyed reading. I also really liked my teacher that year so I would pay really good attention in class. If it is entertaining to be in class or we are talking about something that really interests me or that I can relate to, I will be able to pay attention in class. But if it is not something that I like, then I probably will get bored of the reading and not read it and just hope that I will be able to pay attention in class.
I am excited about the topic of this class. I am really interested in travel because I have no been many places besides states on the east coast. I have never been out of the country, so I have a lot of interest in foreign travel. I am particularly interested in European countries and South American countries. I feel that everyone should be able to travel around the world during his or her life times. I want to make travel a big part of my life when I get older and can support myself. Since I have such an interest in travel, I think that I will be able to stay interested in the reading that we do in this class since we are focusing on travel this semester. I am actually excited about English class for once. I also like how we can submit our papers over the internet on a blog because I think that we should take advantage of the technology that we have access to. In my first semester English class, every assignment that we had was over the Internet in some way. Our first project was to make a website about ourselves. Also, all of our papers we wrote were submitted online so we never had to bring them to class, which was nice.
Although reading is very important, it is not really a big part of my life. I like to read magazines and there is occasionally a book that I am assigned to read that I actually like and read the whole thing, but I never really pick up a book on my own and read. Reading comprehension has always been a difficult subject for me, but if I am interested in what I am reading, I usually will be able to remember what I have read. I think that I will like the books that we are going to read in this class because they are on a subject that I have a lot of interest in. I am hoping that I will be able to turn around my attitude towards reading so I will be able to pick up a book on my own and actually enjoy it.
